How do I order exams?

Step 1: Click on AP Exam Registration and complete the online form. You can submit payment using either a credit/debit card OR mail-in a check or money order. Instructions are included at the end of the form based on the payment option that you choose.

ALL students must complete the online order form and submit payment by February 20, 2019.

Step 2: Once payment is received, the student will receive instructions as well as a JOIN CODE to use to JOIN the AP EXAM GROUP on the new College Board MyAP website. Students MUST complete this step to complete their exam order. Join codes will be issued via email within 24-hours of complete payment.

BOTH steps above must be completed for an exam order to be considered complete.

Why are there now multiple steps for registration?

Carlsbad HS is excited to team with schools at the Fairgrounds who are piloting this new system that College Board will be offering nationwide. next year. This system requires that students JOIN their AP Exam Group at https://myap.collegeboard.org AND submit payment for the exam.

What are the benefits of the new system that College Board is using?

The online JOIN component will allow College Board to personalize student exam materials for exam day. This will mean no longer having to bubble onto a scantron crucial details like name, ID number and email address. AND it will mean faster and more accurate results to your colleges and universities! In addition, as of next year (2019-2020), students will be able to access homework and test assignments from their AP Teachers that will include secure questions from the College Board AP Question Bank. Students will also have access to review materials and resources.

My exam is not listed under the list of Join Codes in the Join Code email.

AP Spanish, AP Studio Art and AP Research do not need to apply the Join Codes. Those are special exams either taken on campus OR do not have an exam day ‘exam,’ but rather a portfolio. Other exams? Please contact info@aptestservice.com for assistance.

What if I can’t log into my College Board profile or can’t remember if I have one?

Students create College Board profiles to access their AP, PSAT and SAT scores or to register for an SAT or SAT 2 Exam. You may already have an account if you have taken these exams in the past.

Don’t create a second account!

Each student should have only ONE College Board account during their high school careers which houses AP, PSAT and SAT scores and information. Which email address and name should I use on my College Board profile?

Students should use their legal name (to match school records), so that the name will also match the student’s School ID or driver’s license at exam check in. College Board also sends scores electronically to colleges/universities. A discrepancy in name can result in score reporting issues and delays. To update a name or correct a name, contact College Board at 1-866-630-9305.

Students should use an email address that they will have access to BEYOND high school.

College Board does not collect Social Security numbers, so your account is identified as unique based on your email address and name. Be consistent in how you enter information!

Why does it say my AP Exam is being administered at Canyon Crest Academy? That is not my school!

Because CHS joins other schools testing at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, per College Board exam security regulations, we have to order the exams for processing through one central account. Canyon Crest Academy will be handling that steps of the process. They will not receive a copy of your scores!

What if I qualify for Free-Reduced Lunch or other Fee Reductions?

Fee reductions are available but must be applied for by February 18 to ensure meeting the registration deadline. Approval may take several days. To apply for a fee reduction, contact Mr. Jake Blackburn in the Guidance Office (dblackburn@carlsbadusd.net or 1-760-331-5175) for forms and instructions. Additional support can be received by emailing us at info@aptestservice.com.

You will still need to complete the online form available under “AP Exam Registration” When prompted, select that “Yes, You have been approved for a Fee Reduction by your AP Coordinator.” Enter the code in the space that is provided. Your total exam fees will be reduced automatically. The balance can then be submitted via credit/debit card or a mail-in check or money order. You MUST also still then join the AP Exam Group on MyAP!

Where do I get an admission ticket?

Students do not need admission tickets to enter the AP Exam testing facilities. However, each student does need a CURRENT picture id, such as a school ID or a driver’s license. Without picture ID students will not be allowed to enter the room.

What may I bring with me to the exam room?

Students may not bring into the exam room any type of backpack or bag, including purses. No study guides or materials are allowed. No cell phones, smartwatches or electronic communication devices are allowed. No iPads, iPods or MP3 players are allowed. No highlighters are allowed. Students may not bring bottled water/drinks or food to the testing room. (See Test Site Regulations for more information.) Students MUST bring a current picture ID, pencils, pens in blue or black ink, and a calculator if applicable.

How do I figure out where my exam will be administered?

Information on testing locations are posted on “Where do I report for a test?” on this site and open the file posted there as of late April. Location information is listed based on the alphabetical order of the exams.

Nearly all AP exams are hosted at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. It is the student/parent responsibility to plan for transportation and arrive on time for check in and exam start times.

When do I need to report to the testing room?

For morning exams, students need to report to the testing room at 7:30am. For afternoon exams students need to report to the testing room beginning at 11:45 a.m. and no later than 12:00pm. We encourage students to be early/ on time for check in since the large number of examinees can mean that parking as well as check in make take time.

Testing will  begin at 8:00am for morning exams and at 12:15pm for afternoon exams. For security reasons and per College Board regulations, students will NOT be admitted to the room once the exam materials have been opened. Late arrivals who are not admitted to the room are considered ‘no shows’ and are not eligible for the partial refund or for make-up of the exam.

How do I know when the exam is? How do I know how long the exam is?

Exam calendar is posted on the Calendar on this website. Exams are either Morning (7:30 a.m. check-in) exams or Afternoon (11:45 a.m. check-in) exams. On average, exams last 4.5 hours (this includes approximately 45 minutes of time spent on completing identifying information, etc.) Students should notify coaches, parents, etc. accordingly since no early dismissal is possible from the exam.

Do I need to excuse my absence from school during the exam?

Your school will receive a copy of an attendance roster from the exam so you will automatically be excused for the class periods that are affected by the testing. You are not excused for the entire day. You must follow your school site’s protocol for checking back in when returning to campus (i.e. checking in with Attendance to get a pass.) You are responsible for all school work missed during your absence for AP Exams.

What if I have more than one exam scheduled for the same day and same time? What if I have two exams scheduled on the same day?

College Board makes provisions for students who would like to register to take two exams that are scheduled at the EXACT same time and date. Please email info@aptestservice.com immediately to get information on late testing locations and information. Unfortunately, you would not be eligible for late testing if you are taking two exams back to back (i.e. one in the morning and one in the afternoon). In the event of back to back testing, please bring a packed lunch in clear bags (no labels.) You will be able to access it during the time between exams.

What if I decide to not take an exam? Can I get a refund?

All exams orders must be pre-paid. If you decide not to take an exam for which you have paid, you must notify us in writing via cancel@aptestservice.com before April 19, 2918. Include in your email your name, your student ID number, the school you attend, and the title of your exam that you would like to cancel. Students who cancel in writing before midnight on April 19 are eligible for a partial refund (a non-refundable fee of $45 is retained). (See Registration Information for more details.) Students who no show for an exam are not eligible for a refund.

What if I finish the exam early? Can I leave early?

Per College Board’s security regulations for exams, students may not leave the test until time is called and all examinees are excused together. If a student leaves without permission, their exam will be collected and submitted separately to College Board. Their score will be cancelled and no refund will be possible. Exams are approximately 4.5 hours. Please be prepared for the duration of the exam.

What if I get sick and can’t make the exam?

There are provisions for students who become sick or injured during or right before testing. In case of such an emergency, please email info@aptestservice.com or call the emergency assistance line at 855-663-8348 IMMEDIATELY since ordering deadlines apply. A doctor’s note will be required.

What if I need to reschedule my exam?

College Board is extremely strict regarding qualifying for rescheduling an AP exam to the Late Testing (make-up) window. In addition, the reason for requesting late testing must also meet the Carlsbad School Board Approved regulations for excused absences. In conjunction with College Board regulations, CHS approved reasons to reschedule an exam include: extreme illness (hospitalization or medical care, a doctor’s note will be required), bereavement, court appearance, conflict with another AP exam, or a school sponsored sport or academic event. Additional fees may apply and documentation may be required. Students are NOT eligible for Late Testing for reasons such as: family trips, conflict with an in-class exam/activity, or having selected the incorrect AP exam subject when you submitted your order.
