1. Registration & Fees
Students must register for the 2017 PSAT/NMSQT exam between September 4, 2017 and October 2, 2017. No late registration will be accepted. The exam will be administered at Lenape Valley Regional High School on Saturday, October 14, 2017. Report at 7:30am. The cost for each exam is $25.00.
Once you have completed registration, stop by the Guidance Office to pick up a practice exam booklet.
2. Why take the PSAT/NMSQT exam?
10th grade students are encouraged to take the PSAT/NMSQT (known as PSAT) as a first step toward college admissions testing. This gives students and parents an idea of areas of academic strength and areas to practice, relative to what is tested on the SAT. Students are also encouraged to take the PSAT in 10th grade in order to begin receiving information from colleges in which they have an interest. The PSAT is one of the very first steps in opening up communications with specific schools. Taking the PSAT can assist students in practicing their test taking skills and get them ready for retaking the exam during their junior year.
11th grade students are encouraged to take the PSAT for a variety of reasons: 1) it gives the most up-to-date picture of where you are likely to score on the actual SAT. This will assist you in determining where you wish to spend your time and effort in preparing for the SAT exam. 2) As a junior, you are entered as a part of the National Merit Scholar Qualifying Test (NMSQT), a competition that awards some top scoring students across the nation with scholarships. 3) Another chance at a practice exam is always a good idea. This will help you to get a feel for the actual exam, which helps to reduce testing anxiety.
3. When are scores released?
PSAT results are usually sent to schools in late December and then are released to students online soon after.
4. Can I cancel my exam and receive a refund?
No cancellation or refunds are possible.
5. What if I miss the exam?
If you miss the exam on October 14th, you can contact College Board to get a list of schools offering the alternate exam on October 25th (during school hours.)
6 . What do I need to bring to the exam?
On testing day students need to bring a working calculator with fresh batteries and at least two Number 2 pencils.
7. How do I submit my exam fees?
Complete the registration form at the link below, and at the end of the form you will have the option of selecting your payment method. You can mail in a check or money order (to ensure timely processing, the postmark date for the mail-in option is September 27, 2017.) Or you can select to pay online with a credit or debit card. A minimal fee is added to the exam fees if selecting online payment. (More details on the registration form.)
